These incredible Venetian carved wood torchères date to the 17th century. The figures are those of famed Italian merchant explorers Marco Polo and Amerigo Vespucci. Given their subject, it is believed these torchères were made for a wealthy Venetian merchant. Considering their age and size, the fact these torchères have survived is astonishing.
